Today marks the 11th anniversary of when I first joined Second Life! I’ve had to switch avatars since then for a couple of different reasons, but I still celebrate May 2, 2004 as my rezday. To celebrate, I decided to do the “First and Recent
” blog challenge that Strawberry Singh posted a couple of months ago. Now, since my blog is still relatively new, I decided to go all the way back to one of the earliest photos I can find of my avatar in SL. The photo on the left is from my modeling portfolio, taken in late May 2004. Back in those days, we didn’t have skins, prim hair, custom animations, WindLight skies or water, sculpties, or mesh to make us look better. The change over the years has been pretty dramatic! I tried to replicate the look as much as I could for the “recent” photo, using items that are much more modern. The actual photo is a whole lot better than can fit in that little square, so make sure to click through to Flickr where I have a full resolution version of the new photo posted.… Read the rest
I am proud to be an official blogger for the Fantasy Faire
, and as part of being that, they have asked us to complete a series of blog challenges or memes that tie into the event. Today, I’m doing the My New Shiny
challenge, which is to blog about a store that you previously didn’t know much about. I’m so happy to feature meadowWorks
, created by Garvie Garzo! One of the things that I love about meadowWorks (besides the exquisite craftsmanship in their sculpture) is the fact that rather than having the minimum of 2 Relay For Life donation items for the Fantasy Faire, they have a stunning [NUMBER], in addition to also having a Relay For Life “Gotya” (gacha) machine and a one-of-a-kind sculpture in the silent auction! This scene features 4 different pieces from meadowWorks in addition to a lagoon rock from Mer-chandise Cove
, plants from Cerridwen’s Cauldron
, kelp from Balderdash, and rocks from Jammin

The Fantasy Faire
opened less than a week ago, and has already raised over L$4.4 million for Relay For Life, making it the highest-fundraising event of this RFL season so far! I am proud to be an official blogger for the event, and as part of being that, they have asked us to complete a series of blog challenges or memes that tie into the event. Today, I’m doing the Faire Folk
challenge, which is to create a character from the Fairelands using mainly items from this year’s Fantasy Faire, and photograph the character in their home sim.
I chose to create a merman and photograph him in the Fairelands Junction sim. Saiyge Lotus of Balderdash
has done an incredible job of creating Fairelands Junction and turning it into an underwater masterpiece this year. The main component of the avatar – the tail, pauldrons, and wrist guards – are actually not from this year’s Fantasy Faire. They are part of a limited edition set that was created by Mer Betta
and auctioned off at the 2011 Fantasy Faire. … Read the rest
Relay For Life is something that I have been involved with in Second Life for many years now, on many different levels. One of my favorite RFL events of the year is the Fantasy Faire, which opens tomorrow at 9 AM SLT! I am proud and honored to be one of the official Fantasy Faire bloggers for this year. Fantasy Faire has asked its bloggers to do a couple of blog challenges to help foster the community. This post is Why I Relay.
I relay for many reasons, but the main one is that I can, while so may others can’t. Like many of us, I’ve had people close to me who have heard the dreaded words telling them that they have cancer. Some are still with us, but others are not. One of my good Second Life friends was Madame Maracas. We lost Maddie to cancer on September 8, 2010. I have since set up a memorial park in her honor in-world
, and enjoy going there to visit and see the photos of her. I also have an aunt out in California who is currently beating the odds. … Read the rest
This week, Strawberry Singh’s blog meme was to take a photo in Second Life inspired by a television series. I figured that everyone was going to be doing Game of Thrones, so I decided to do one from one of my non-fantasy favorite genres – reality TV. Survivor has long been one of my favorite shows, and this photo depicts a Survivor contestant who has won an individual immunity challenge when he needed it most – he made it to the final 7, but was about to be voted out by agreement of two alliances of 3 people! That means that rather than going home, he’s now the deciding vote between the two sides of the tribe. No wonder he’s smiling! In my mind, he plays the rest of the game perfectly, and ends up being voted as the Sole Survivor, the winner of the season. Full outfit and scene credits are below.
The outfit features items from a few events, but I’d like to highlight the face paint. It’s by HopScotch and will be available at Fantasy Faire when it’s open later this week. … Read the rest
This year’s Fantasy Faire begins next week, and I’m proud to be one of the official bloggers for it! One of the things that they have for us to do is a series of blog challenges to get our creative juices flowing. To get ready for the Faire, I’m doing the first one today – it’s called “I Remember”. They’ve asked us to think about the past Fantasy Faires and share our favorite stories, memories, transformations, and moments. Having spent weeks of time in the Fairelands over the years that the Fantasy Faire has been held, I have far too many memories to share, but I do have a few favorites.
I’ll never forget the shotgun wedding (literally) of Alia Baroque and Clover Denzo. That whole situation never fails to make me laugh when I think about it. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Elicio Ember’s incredible plants. I’ll never forget all of the laughs that the Fantasy Faire team had on our constant 24/7 Skype calls as Faire time neared during the years I was on the organizing team. … Read the rest
Frequently, Strawberry Singh posts a Monday Meme/Challenge for other bloggers to participate in. For the last couple of years, she has posted one asking people certain stats about their avatar. This year, mesh bodies have come into much greater use on the Grid, so peoples’ numbers are quite different. I myself just switched to a mesh body a few weeks ago, so I’m still tweaking, but I thought I’d still take part. Strawberry asked a few questions related to our shapes, as well as what some of our sliders are.
1. Do you currently own a mesh body? If so, do you wear it all the time or just once in a while? If not, skip to the fourth question.
I do – The Mesh Project’s beta male body. These days, I wear it about 95% of the time – I really only change out of it if I want to wear something that absolutely won’t fit it (short shorts are the worst culprit because of the body’s massive thighs). I’m still getting used to the body, but I’m enjoying it quite a bit so far.… Read the rest
Many Mondays, Strawberry Singh
posts a blog challenge or meme, and since I’m a couple of years late to the party, I thought I’d go back and join in on some of the ones I’ve missed. This one from about a year ago is the Spring Season challenge
. The photo above called “The Birth of Spring” is actually one that I posted about a week ago on Flickr, but I think it’s absolutely perfect for this. As part of this blog challenge, Berry posted three questions to answer in addition to taking the photograph.
- What is the spring season like where you live?
This Spring was really non-existent. I live in the north-western part of Texas in the United States, and our February was brutal (for us) – we had inches of ice on the road at times along with snow. There were times that basically the whole city I live in shut down! Then we transitioned straight to our normal May weather – mid-high 80 degree afternoon temperatures and very, very sunny.

- Have you ever taken a picture of your avatar in water in Second Life?– Let me check. This is probably the closest to in the water I’ve gotten.

I never really get involved in blog memes, but I love this one so here I am! My picture represents what I feel SL does for me, allows me to be free, but also to hide away at times too.
1. Have you ever owned a sim in Second Life?
Yes, back in 2005 for about a year or so and I got told by a Linden it had a stupid name! I miss Slootsville.

I spent the first year of my SL in a club, Club Divine, it was pink and sparkly and all things good, I met some of the best people there, I miss those days dearly.
