The Catnip Carnival opened it’s doors today and so far has received a great, and generous response from the community.  This is Avatars for Animals first event, and it’s benefiting River Cities Humane Society for Cats in Louisiana, USA.

We have ten amazing designers participating in the event, and I wanted to at least show a few of the items featured.  You can find this lovely cat inspired necklace from Cae, as well as this cute animal print top from Peqe!  These are only two of the 10 awesome items available so make sure you stop by!

There’s something absolutely enchanting in stories, pictures and views that present to us normality with just one thing out of place. Just one surreal detail breaking the surface, pulling us into a story, into a different setting, thought pattern, mindscape.

Somehow the reality surrounding the one strange thing makes the thing even stranger. If you find a piece of magic in what should be an ordinary day, it stands out against all the dull normalcy even brighter. Makes us look at everything more carefully, more in detail. Makes us think. Makes us see.

Perhaps makes us even realize that if you learn how to look, there is magic in our ordinary lives. You just have to remember to attune to it to be able to see it.

I had a little lol moment to myself earlier today when I was working on this pic, just because it’s such a huge contrast compared to the one I made yesterday. And ok, it’s not my normal style but it’s fun to dress up when something like World Goth Fair hits the grid!

The skin I’m wearing is new Jalwa and can be found at the Goth Fair, along with the eyeshadow layer. It comes in the usual tones but also includes a vamp and goth shade (I’m wearing goth) which are just perfect for that dark look. Also includes hands and feet appliers for the SLink attachments!

The top I’m wearing is new from Baiastice and can be found at The Boutique. It comes in lots of different summery colours as well but of course I’m wearing black for this style. It’s a halter neck with ties at the back and I might have to blog it again at some point to show that off because it’s really very striking. The bangles I’m wearing I picked up at Teefy last week for Fifty Linden Friday, but they’re usually still in store now, just a bit higher in price.

The head piece is something I picked up by Glam Affair at The Dressing Room forever ago, seriously about a year ago, but just hadn’t had a chance to wear yet. I do this a lot, buy things when they’re cheap just in case I need it one day and low and behold, today was that day!

My friend the “Nocturnal Poet” that he is sent me a poem last night and it gave me a little chuckle. (See Below) But as a watcher and a thinker, it also made me think. So often in life we have activities or experience moments where we are left with the feeling that postage is due. I’m sure you know how it is, the experience you are promised is never quite as good as the hype that led up to it? For example, you work real hard for a promotion and it is given to someone else. Boy that stinks, doesn’t it? The trick though, is how you deal with it. I think once the sting of the rejection wears off a little, it’s a great time to sit back and take stock. Figure out why this goal/event was so important to you. In this example you might just find the raise in money was the motivation and not the promotion itself. Once you’ve figured out why something is so important to you, it’s a lot easier to keep going. I once read the quote,”The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground” and somehow it fits me, so I keep it near on tough days.

We all fall flat at some point, it’s a fact of life. There is no magic number of times to try and get something right but you should keep trying until it either works, or to the point where you can look at yourself and think, “I may not have gotten what I wanted, but no one can say I didn’t give it my all.” The point is, don’t dwell on the “disasters (Read more...)

Today marked the opening of The Garage Fashion Fair 2013 and saw the usual impressive line up of SL’s finest.  I saw around 40 stores with eye-catching designs, making it worth a trip to the sim to view each and everyone of these stores.  Trust me some of these garages looked amazing, they would fetch a small fortune on a open market!! I can’t wait for real life work to be done. Tonight is another “girls night out.” I can have them any time I want, but my friends, being married, some even with a rugrat or two, the orchestrating becomes a bit more complex. We basically sit there hunched over our Iphones, crackberry’s or androids pecking away at our calendars until we find one night that is empty for us all. I love girls night out, it always reminds me of our carefree college days but more importantly, it reminds me I need to stop every once in a while and treasure the many gifts I’ve been given. The wonderful friends and their growing families, the state I live in, my job, all the beauty that surrounds me, and my education. I do think college is a gift, not all are lucky enough to be able to go but I believe education is the greatest gift of all. I know, how does that make sense, right? We all have the ability to expand our knowledge, to study, to learn from others, opportunity is all around us, everywhere we look. All we have to do is listen, ask, share. I plan to be a life long learner. I think Mark Twain said it just right when he was quoted,”Don’t let schooling interfere with your education.” Real learning comes from what we learn when our nose isn’t mashed in some book.

There should be a base respect within us for other human beings, no matter what they look like or how they dress. It is strange how much easier it is to channel all the negativity you feel toward anything different than to face what is really the matter. No one can change how people react toward differences, but we can change what is considered different. Eventually.

Most importantly, we should — everyone should — stop trying to hide in the shadows and simply be who you are, no matter if it fits in the norm or not. Same of course vice versa, don’t try to be something you are not. Simply be yourself. Be so proudly, in the sun. The norm will change in time: gradually, eventually, one person at a time.

This round sees a guest appearance from ELIKATIRA!  Yep, there are three hairs out all at The Boutique, this one is the cutie Enjoy! and Enjoy I shall!  There are so many goodies at this round that I can’t even begin to squee loud enough, this has soon turned into one of the must attend events on the grid! The top I am wearing is from Baiastice, and there is also a skirt to mix and match with it, and both are available in a bunch of colours, I really wanted to go for a floraly yellow today tho!   So I was super happy when the Izzies socks came in a faded yellow!!! (among other colours) and they are made to fit with SLink feet with appliers, so YAYYYYYY! no ugly blog sock feet, just pretty ones!    Also worn is a new skirt  from Cute Poison!  It comes in various denim washes and is a mesh beauty!   Perfect staple for summer  I’m wearing SLink nail appliers too, and the gorgeous pattern is from Hopscotch for The Boutique… several available, yay!

I can’t say I like golf all that much, especially watching it. But I do listen to news, well, nope that’s not true. I hate the news. But I watch sports news, doesn’t seem like there would be too much angst there, right? And if you listen close enough, every once in a while, tucked within the story is a life lesson. Having no particular alliance with any golfer, I found it a bit funny that there is an ongoing “tif” between Sergio Garcia and Tiger Woods. I always thought, for the most part, professionals of any sport at least pretended to act, um, professional. Well apparently in golf, all decorum of propriety need not apply. Over the years these two have done more hissy-fitting than any manly man should do. But in the end, the only two people who suffer are the two participants. The rest of us spectators sit back and enjoy the show with a laugh and chalk up their losses to their own bad karma, there is no superior prowess betwixt one or the other. Perhaps they should sit down and look at this feud, resolve to be indifferent and move on.

Take from? Yes, of course! When you find a person in life you just can’t possibly get along with, and sometimes YOU just might be the one who is toxic, remaining engaged in a feud with them creates nothing but emotional bondage. I have mentioned in the past how much I love a good hybrid, the mixing of system layers and mesh, to really add extra versatility to an item. This Basic Maxi dress is a fantastic example of that, and you will want as many as you can get your hands on, the style, the colours – the appliers – it all works.  I wanted to show how it can go from a casual daytime look, to a dressier night out style with a few simple items added to the look.

With the help of the lovely mesh denim jacket from Emery that is at this months FaMESHed, the combination mixed with the system layer upper portion of the dress is perfect. Adding a few bits and pieces of your favourite jewellery would add a lot of flavour to the look, but I settled for simple today. I was never into denim jackets when they were a big thing in the 80′s but one of my friends was obsessed, and after wearing this one by Emery, I can understand the attraction after all this time. The sunbrella which is a C88 event item by Yummy, is adorable, and thankfully mod also, seeing as it was a bit oversized to start with, but I made it a little smaller.

Humans provide much more entertainment when they think you are one of them, after all. They share so many similar personality traits, too. All the primitive attempts to gather hoards, the lust for power and gold, the clever games they play with each other… much better entertainment than the repetitive damsel-stealing just to see what they’d do this time.

The best part of it all is that these days one could walk around with wings and claim it being an especially designed movie-prop that one purchased from eBay and the humans would be in awe. No one would pick up as much as a single sword. In comparison small horns are a fashion statement!

I really love great latex pieces, and this new mini skirt by BOOM is just fantastic. It is rigged mesh, and the liquid effect of the latex texture is spot on. It can be worn with or without the alpha, but this will depend on your shape and how your ao moves I expect, but I had no issues unless sitting down. The skirt is a partial release for the 100 Block event that is now on, with a multitude of fantastic creators involved. My post today is a little sad. Kaelyn Alecto sadly announced this week that, due to recent changes in the Second Life TOS, her sim It All Starts With A Smile will only be around until 15th May. This makes me very sad because it was a beautiful sim decorated and maintained with so much love and affection and designed to be a haven for bloggers and friends and lovers and photographers and it’s a very sad loss for the whole Second Life community that it will be going.

I hope you will all take some time before Wednesday to go visit and enjoy the sim before it is gone.

Thank you Kaelyn, it was beautiful and I for one appreciated it.

I sometimes think that spring is my favorite season because of home and garden items alone! So many amazing creations come out when the temperatures warm up. 100 Block is an event at Depraved Nation and it’s full of awesome goodies!  This skin is the Belleza offering, it’s Ava and it comes in all the usual tones and brow options and is a scrumptious addition to your Belleza collection!  It’s a pretty plain, neutral looking makeup with luscious lips and smokey eyes, so you can wear it with anything! I decided to wear it with more 100 Block goodies!  This time from Happy Undead.    This little top and skirt come as separates, and each with different HUD options you can purchase, you get a fair few options on each HUD for your mix and match pleasure which you can see just 6 combos of below, as well as the one above.

You can choose from three packs of tops, including plain, ribbed and striped… and you can choose from four different packs of skirts… denim, print, touched and vinyl!! I really loved the touched skirts, I think they are so hilarious and cute lol… I am easily pleased!   The texturing on the tops and skirts are absolutely spot on and what I love most of all are the size options!! For the top you get the usual standard sizing, then you get small, medium and big boob options within each size, and for the skirts you get the standard sizes then big, medium and small but with 2 different belly options! � (Read more...)

I have been absent the last few days, spending a little time fixing some RL stuff, and it has been relaxing. I was still able to attend to What’s New SL stuff and The Deck…but it gave me a chance to get my mind in order for the upcoming months of Hair Fair preparation. It is definitely an exciting time of the year, and there are so many great events going on now, as well as in preparation for the time before that. I heard about SummerFest yesterday and that looks like an awesome event. If you haven’t heard of it, I suggest if you are a store you jump on the chance to be involved, you can find the application for that HERE.

Also don’t forget you have Collabor88 going on, as well as FaMESHed‘s 1st Birthday celebration. That is a lot of great stuff to see and do. Today though my post is about items not at events. The other day I was looking at my UnBra skins folder and was wondering what had happened to that store, well sure enough if you think hard enough, things happen. The creator of UnBra skins has released two ( only one shown today) new skins, and not only do they have great make ups, and cleavage options etc, but they are all compatible with Tangos and also Slink avatar enhanced hands and feet appliers are available. So with a new release comes big things…

Baiastice is part of FaMESHed’s birthday bash, and this Karen dress is available in both stripes and solids and is just yummy!  With slight hint of silk, this dress is perfect for the more sophisticated occasion, or just because you want to look fancy, sexy and cute at the same time.  I, being me, opted for the Yellow stripe, but there seven more combos both stripes and solids for you to choose from, so you want to get over to FaMESHed before it’s over and pick yourself up some Baiastice!

Also released for the birthday bash is this gorgeous mesh cross necklace, it comes in white, black, copper and gold and you also get a studded cross ring with it too!   A very intricate chain with a nice chunky detailed studded cross!   There is another goody there for you too, but I thought i’d let you go and see about that one yourself

As part of a sim revamp and spring release these shorts and tops were released a few weeks back.  Both of them come in oooooodles of colours, I opted for a mint/yellow combo though.. because I am Willis, and that is what I do, there are options of both solids and pinstripes for both items, so if you want to add a touch of class with a stripe, the world is your oyster!  As I said (Read more...)

This is Karens Backyard Set from 11th Hour!   Isn’t it beautiful?   I do love items in SL that are made to look like something a bit more recycled in RL!   This makeshift tent with canvas and plant pots and sticks is just adorable!  The set also comes with a bench loaded with animations, both couples and singles for both sexes so YAY that’s great too!    It also comes with a breezeblock/pallet table with soil sacks at the side (optional), and it just looks like something you would love to have in your garden, and in my opinion both in SL and RL!  11th Hour is coming out with such wonderful items, perfectly crafted, wonderfully textured and just adorable, cute, and fantastic!  I cannot praise them highly enough

I put together a quick LoTD too!  I wanted to showcase the new Irene Skin from Izzies, shown here in Natural…. as with all Izzies skins it comes with OODLES of options and makeups, but this is just the bare plan cleavage skin!   I love how all of Izzies skins look so wondefully smooth and delicious!   I will showcase them in all their glory soon!    Also worn is a new set from Pure Poison… this is the Black Pixi Outfit, out now for this round of WCF!  A lovely mesh studded (Read more...)
