There’s a Boat That’s Leaving Soon for New York

One of my favorite songs ever is “There’s a Boat That’s Leaving Soon for New York” from Porgy and Bess as sung by Phoebe Snow. This promenade on Staten Island made me think of the song. To be honest, lots of things make me think of this song. It’s on my iPod and I play it frequently. Her voice was amazing and she was a heroic woman. There’s a boat that’s leaving soon for New York
Come with me
That’s where we belong, baby
You and me can live that high life in New York
Come with me
There we can’t go wrong, baby
We’ll live in the swellest mansion
Up on upper 5th avenue
And through Harlem we’ll go struttin’, we’ll go struttin’
And there’ll be nothin’ too good for you
You’ll dress me in silks and satins
In the latest Paris styles
And all your blues you’ll be forgettin’
You’ll be forgettin
There’ll be no frettin’
Just nothing but smiles There’s a boat that’s leaving soon for New York
Come with me
That’s where we belong
That’s where we belong
That’s where we belong
That’s where we belong
I mean that’s where we belong ****SHOPPING LIST******

I Will Stick with Horses, Thank You

I love this new Plume dress from Basaltice with its little feathers all over it. It comes in so many versions and I want to wear them all. One of the things I love about Sissy Pessoa is when she does prints, she does a lot of prints that are not just several shades of one print. The dress also has a long version with a long sheer skirt over the shorter opaque skirt. My poses are all from a new HUD from Voir…a bento hud and more importantly an (almost) still Hud that is not so fidgety. Yay! I used it in this video reviewing the book Good Friday on the Rez. I had planned to shoot this with some bison in South Dakota, but some jerk there kept shoving me, so I had to leave. I will stick with horses. I reached way back in my closet for the Ramonda heels from Glamistry. I think they are my favorite Glamistry shoes. I love these classic shapes, the pointed toe, no platform, feminine and sleek. My skin is Barbara from Glam Affair – a Lelutka applier and the hair is from Pr!tty, from June’s Hairology.… Read the restI will stick with the horses

The Arcade Closes at Midnight Friday

Beaches and dragons, camping equipment and drive-ins, campers, canoes, and wedding dresses. All those things will remain in one room for just one more day….so if you have been waiting for traffic to slow down at The Arcade, you better hop to it.

I am camping on the beach with hive and Sway’s helpful creations. The decision to camp was inspired by a book I read, Gather the Daughters. It will be on my favorite books of 2017 list. Sway’s shelter and floor make camping comfy and very well lit. M.Birdie’s Marcia outfit is also great camping gear since it’s already very distressed. I went barefoot. The beach, luckily, is swept for broken glass and other pokey things. ****SHOPPING LIST******

Age of Swords @ The Arcade

I love it when different elements from The Arcade come together like the armor from Fedora and the dragon elements from C L A Vv at June’s Arcade which ends at Friday night. I actually loved the wings from the C L A Vv dragon, but ended up using these from Conflict Angel because I wanted animated wings for my video blog below . I reviewed the second book in an amazing fantasy series, Legends of the First Empire. I dug out some elements from the Bird of Prey that C L A Vv made for a previous Arcade. That curved blade works well with the dragon gloves. Aren’t those claws something? I just am so in love with those boots/claws. The Tableau Vivant hair is gorgeous, too, and so active, full of movement. The makeup is from Glam Affair. Look at those weapons! ****SHOPPING LIST******

Eponymous Me & Cockfosters

So, I was considering what to wear on this subway. I really didn’t want anything ridiculous revealing. Something I would hope not be accosted in is what I was thinking. I remembered this gorgeous dress Cecelia Petion had posted on Plurk, so I unpacked the Poppy blogger box for June and saw the box inside had a dress named Cajsa. OMG! What could this be? Then when I unpacked it, it was the dress I remembered from Plurk…I just about did handstands. I would have if I had an animation handy. This struck me as the apotheosis of Second Life serendipity. They way things just fall into place. So I needed something subway suitable because the first short story in Cockfosters takes place on a subway. And yes, I admit it, I read the book because the title amused me. I am adolescent that way. Speaking of serendipity, how about those sandals from Ingenue at Collabor88 this month. Poppy did not make this dress for Collabor88, yet, could they be more perfect together? This whole outfit is an ode to serendipity, though I confess, I selected the texture on the headband to make it a bit more peachy than pinky.… Read the rest“There are only two ways to live your life. Here and Gone

I am usually ambivalent about jumpsuits. In my first life, I think they are annoying. They are not particularly flattering and seriously, who wants to almost completely undress every time they go to the restroom? But we don’t pee in SL, so bodysuits are not so ridiculous here. And when the body suit is this beautifully architectural, then all of a sudden I am down with bodysuits.
The Mirima shoes from Ingenue are not only the right height and color, the lovely curving of the strap give them the same architectural finesse that the bodysuit enjoys. Seriously, look at the ad from Ingenue, look at the bodice of the jumpsuit. A great updo (Imani) from Truth, wrecking ball earrings from Kunglers, as well as some bracelets and a ring, and subtle, but strong makeup from Glam Affair and I am set for my book review of Here and Gone. ***SHOPPING LIST******

The Age of Myth

While I don’t role play it is fun to dress up. I had a good excuse because I wanted to review Age of Myth, this book I read that I really loved. There were some outfits at The Arcade that were perfect so the timing was perfect. Age of Myth is a fantasy novel, the first of five in a new series by Michael J. Sullivan. I reviewed this book on my blog HERE.

Everything began with the glorious wings from C L A Vv at The Arcade. The white wings just demanded a bold, glorious white dress and there were two bridal sets at The Arcade. This one from Salt & Pepper is so much more “role-play” oriented though. You can see how perfectly role-play the dress is. The gloves and headers are also from C L A Vv at The Arcade and I fancied them up a bit with a bunch of bangles from Zaara. So I am ready for all sorts of mayhem. The hair is from Tableau Vivant, a wild hair blown in the wind and available at The Arcade. The skin is Glam Affair, the Polar skin. The choker you see is also from Zaara.… Read the restThe Age of Myth

Colors at The Arcade & Collabor88

My mother was a believe in dressing to feel better. If you feel sick, wear a dress and fix your hair. If you feel blah, wear something bright. I had an annoying headache and felt so dreary yesterday, I knew I needed some brightness, so I put on the white-white-white high-waisted long-bottomed pants from Pixicats at Collabor88. I also added a top from HUCCI in lovely jewel tones and neutrals. Kandinsky once said, “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.” I don’t know if that is true, but I know it can give your mood a big pop. I decided to introduce you to Toodles XXXIII. My brother has had a chihuahua for a pet for most of his adult life. Just one, always named Toodles. Toodles, ToodlesII, ToodlesIII. I am not sure what iteration of Toodles exists now, but I went for XXXIII to be sure I did not tread on any Toodles’ memory.
Look at how long those pants are…with that second hem making those legs so very long. Such long pants requires fabulous platforms and Ingenue came through for us with Lykke released at The Arcade.… Read the rest“Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”

MetaLES and Contrasts

I put on this gorgeous jumpsuit from Baiastice that was released at Collabor88 the other day. I had thought I might go check out the beach, but then on a whim, I headed over to MetaLES to see the new exhibition from Sina Souza. It is amazing! However, I could not help but notice that in mood the exhibit and my outfit were on opposite sides of a vast chasm. This jumpsuit is bright, colorful and fun-provoking. The exhibition is striking, creative, sombre, and thought-provoking.
It also encourages you to be part of it. Here I took seven pictures, one on each pose ball and then just erased a portion of each layer to expose the layers underneath. Nonetheless, the contrast between what I was wearing and what I was seeing was striking and made me think about how complex and flexible we are as people. It’s a good thing, I think, that we can enjoy ourselves, be happy, and yet still be aware of and concerned about more serious and troubling issues that affect the world. Wearing frivolous and whimsical shoes like these from Garbaggio does not make us less capable of concern about wars and violence in the world, poverty and hunger at home, or the hatred that drives so many people to unfathomable acts.… Read the restGallery exhibitions are like flowers, they bloom, and then they die, they exist only as memories.

When the heroes go off the stage, the clowns come on.

I often thought Obama suffered all the slings and arrows of outrageous racism with heroic calm and self-control We didn’t hear him whining about it, even when lying, bigoted blowhards said he was born in Kenya or he was a secret Muslim, which is utterly beside the point as our Constitution prohibits any religious requirements for elected office, even if our citizenry disrespects our Constitution daily. Now, the clown has come on and he whines daily that no one has ever been treated so poorly as he has, not even Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, or Kennedy.
When I think of that angry clown with no self control, who has never learned even the basic elements of common decency, who has been indulged his entire life by bootlicking cowards, I shudder to think that man has our launch codes. This is one of those, “If I can’t have it, no one else can” sort of people who will break things out of spite, even breaking the entire world. He cannot be trusted with our national security information, sharing it with our enemies to brag about how he gets the “best intel” and with a fascist dictator to measure who has the bigger dick.… Read the restWhen the heroes go off the stage, the clowns come on.

Moral Hazard

You simply must have the Gingerfish “Birdy” pose set to tell this Administration exactly what you think of them. Moral hazard is increasingly commonplace. Moral hazard happens when people make decisions that involve risk while they are protected from the risk. Gambling with other people’s money is a moral hazard. So is gambling with other people’s lives. Susan Sarandon’s glib disregard for the lives of immigrants, the poor, people who might lose health insurance and people of color when she encouraged risking a Trump presidency to “heighten the contradictions” is an example of moral hazard. She’s a white woman who won’t be deported or be killed by the police because she forgot to use her turn signal. She’s wealthy and does not risk homelessness or loss of health insurance. It was easy for her to contemplate disaster because other people lose, not her. Fashion and politics go together…and always have.… Read the restMoral Hazard: Taking risks when one is protected from the consequences.

Just Because

Just because you think you’re so pretty,
And just because you think you’re so hot,
Well, just because you think you’ve got something
That no other girl has got, I love Just Because clothing, not only because the textures are well-done and the mesh is perfectly rigged, because it reminds me of one of my favorite albums as a kid. It belonged to my parents and I played it over and over and over. One of the songs was Just Because. Here you can see the entire outfit and you can pick up everything at Collabor88 except the nail polish. These VALE KOER Sugardoll Heels are all about the shine, shine, shine. A HUD allows you to wear it in a rainbow of colors. You could even go Sean Spicer and have one black and one brown. The bracelet is by Noir and you can choose the bands, the metals, and stones. The polish is from Art Nails by Nylon Pinkney at Tableau. I saw them on Plurk™ the other day and had to have them. I took this necklace from Cynful’s ballgown…it is perfection.… Read the rest“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”

The new minidress from ALT by TRUTH is all kinds of shiny. It comes with several color options, but the many metallics were my favorite thing. Another favorite thing, the glorious twist and roll pullback hair style by TRUTH called Avery/Elena It was all so luscious, I pulled out the champagne. Please note the lovely shoes from Thalia Heckroth™ that allow you to choose the color of the sides and heels and the toecaps. Glam Affair released a bold gorgeous necklace. In Riding a Horse, We Borrow Freedom

I thought I blogged this a week ago. Oops! First, I have to deal with the quote I used for the title. The internet is a disaster for quote lovers and this is an example of why. Which Helen Thompson? My guess this quote may have come from the wife of the race horse trainer, David Thompson. I am pretty darn sure it did not come from this Helen Thompson and by the way, I am even more sure that fifth quote is also one that belongs to the woman whose life was in racing, not the psychologist studying gender differences who was born in 1874.
I love these sexy booties from Glamistry, though of course, these are functional for walking around pixel barnyards only. I paired this fun summertime Rodeo shirt from Gizza with a fun, embroidered pair of jeans from Liziaah. I am loving this Cheri hair from Truth, with one ear free to show off my CAE earrings and necklace. I have had them for a few years now and still love them. There’s a fragility and delicacy to this Kinga skin for Lelutka from Glam Affair.… Read the restIn Riding a Horse, We Borrow Freedom

Rescued

My great-niece recently rescued a couple horses from a kill pen, the third generation of horse rescuers in my family. Kill pen horses are usually sold for pet food because they are considered problematic, untrainable, vicious and dangerous. They usually require a level of training most people just will not invest. In time, though, they can learn to trust and be trusted. If you want to see the evidence, see my great-grand niece cleaning this rescued horse’s hooves just two weeks into training…and the foundations for a fourth generation of rescuers begins. It was thinking about them, the work they are doing, and that two other nieces are doing, that I thought I might take this month’s house from Barnesworth for Collabor88 and set up a farm. I tinted it, one of the things I love about Barnesworth homes.  I live across the river from Gidge. Her house is in the background. Are you loving this wonderful dress from The Secret Store? I am, I particularly love the prints.… Read the rest“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.”

She turned to the sunlight and shook her yellow head, and whispered to her neighbor: “Winter is dead.”

I don’t even remember when I purchased Filter Forge®, the popular third-party companion to PhotoShop® that lets you apply fancy filters to your photos. It was long ago, maybe 2008 or 2009. Anyway, I don’t even use PhotoShop anymore as my laptop has no CD/DVD drive to allow me to install it. With materials, shadows, mesh bodies, and all the other controls we have over our raw shots, there’s no real need for PhotoShop either, except for the super fancy portraits with painted hair and so on. I still use Filter Forge from time to time for the fun of it. I just open photos directly in the software. Anyway, it’s 80% off today so I thought I would play with it and let you all know that it’s deeply discounted. Please note, that is an ordinary link with no clever code that gives me some compensation for promoting their software. I just have the basic package, the cheapest one, and it has everything I need. I don’t need to do pictures bigger than 3000 by 3000, so it’s enough for me.… Read the rest“She turned to the sunlight And shook her yellow head, And whispered to her neighbor: "Winter is dead.”

The Heavenly Spheres make music for us,

The Poetry of the Spheres are on display at LEA4 – a celebration of music and poetry in a pastoral setting with lovely ancient ruins. From the description of the sim: Legend has it that the Ancient Gods of the Greeks have abandoned this realm, but evidence of their existence can be found above, in celestial spheres. These signs and symbols, both direct and abstract, are also reflected in Gustav Holst’s 1918 orchestral suite, The Planets, Op 32. You can explore each of the seven movements, representing the corresponding planets, by teleporting from the Olympus Island up to that particular sphere: Mars, the Bringer of War
Venus, the Bringer of Peace
Mercury, the Winged Messenger
Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity
Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age
Uranus, the Magician
Neptune, the Mystic There you will find a music link station for the appropriate movement – click on it to open a link to the music so you can play it on your browser while you explore.Read the restThe Heavenly Spheres make music for us,

This picture is illegal in Russia

Russia recently banned this meme of Putin in makeup that many were using to advocate for gay rights. In recent years, while the LGTBIQ community in the United States have seen some victories while still facing challenges and efforts to roll back their rights, sexual minorities have been experiencing ever-increasing oppression in such disparate places as Uganda and Russia. This is not a coincidence. As the Christianists have lost ground in the United States, they have exported their anti-gay agenda. This week, news came out about concentration camps in Chechnya–think about that. Russia has  passed legislation against gays, Uganda criminalized homosexuality and nearly passed a death penalty for homosexuality though we held off by pressure from Europe and the United States. Scott Lively is currently being sued for crimes against humanity for his role in advocating the repressive Ugandan actions, including advocating the death penalty for gays.… Read the restStop Homofobia meme banned in Russia

Behold the Hands

One of my favorite things about NYU is that they usually release as separates and the lovely camisole and lace skirt released at faMESHed are true to form. I love separates because it’s fun to mix and match. The pieces come with multiple colors selected by HUD. These lovely shoes are from Kenvie for Shoetopia. They can be customized at the heels, the shoe, and the straps.  And then there are the hand poses, released by oOo Studio for Fifty Linden Friday they are worth far more…which is a good thing since Friday has passed. But anyway, thanks to Bento and posemakers creating elegant poses Montaigne’s quote about hands is now true in SL as well. “Behold the hands, how they promise, conjure, appeal, menace, pray, supplicate, refuse, beckon, interrogate, admire, confess, cringe, instruct, command, mock and what not besides, with a variation and multiplication of variation which makes the tongue envious.”  My jewelry is from Kunglers for The Crossroads.… Read the restBehold the hands, how they promise, conjure, appeal...
