Exciting happenings in our real life have conspired to keep the -Hanaya- team busy over the last weeks, and likely will continue to do so for the next few months. Happy things, like plenty of international travel, an upcoming move to southern Germany, and most importantly as it relates to Second Life – more time spent on 3-d modelling.

That is not to say that we have been totally lazy in Second Life.
Some news:

The new -Hanaya- flagship store is complete, and will open soonish. We can’t wait to show it to you guys!

All that is left to do is to implement the vendor system, which we promised you guys ages ago. Finally, we will have proper gift cards, a redelivery terminal, an ability to do group discounts etc.

 -Hanaya- Victorian Obelisk Trellis

First up is our Victorian Obelisk Trellis, which is suitable for indoors as well as your terrace, patio or garden. The piece is a handcrafted, original mesh created in our workshop and topped with a sculpted finial. The trellis itself is made from wrought iron and finished in a graphite powder coat. The base with its raised panel-work is made of teak, and has a black laquer finish.

The product is provided in several styles and has a land impact of 12.

Next up is a natural teak mesh garden bench * with 6 menu-driven animations for 2 people. It is suitable for both home as well as public spaces, since the animations are PG and are not couple-oriented. Three types of the bench are included in your purchase – the bench itself, as well as models which have the daisies and European Robin embellishments.

The cold, crisp nights of winter are perfect for grabbing a few friends, heading away from the city lights and setting up a telescope for some sky-watching. And to make finding objects in the sky easier, we use a telescope with a motorized mount, which is connected to a laptop. Using an application like Stellarium, it is easy to select an object on the monitor (like a star or planet), then pressing the telescope Go-to key to guide it to the object.

To give our friends and customers a chance to do some star gazing in Second Life, we have put together a mesh star watching kit as a gift* for the Cold Winter Nights hunt. The set includes a telescope, as well as a laptop with cable, folding camp table and of course an astronomy reference book. The pieces (with the exception of the telescope) were handcrafted in our mesh workshop specifically for this project.

The set includes six built-in animations for simultaneous use by 3 avatars, to allow you and your friends to watch the sky, operate the laptop and stand around shivering, waiting for your turn. The animations are adjustable for height and rotation, and do not require poseballs. And yes, you can see the sky when you use the telescope!

Lance Corrimal, dear brother-in-law who does scripting when I get out of my depth. Lance is the face and brains behind the Dolphin Viewer – an awesome TPV that is great for building, uploading mesh, taking pictures + machinima, and of course sailing.

Lapis Corrimal – my twin, my clone, my sister, myself. She is the go-to person on my friend list when things get too busy and hectic. She lets me blow off steam and have just plain fun.

The first thing to try is our Old Fashioned Christmas Tree – click the tree to bring up the texture change menu to alternate between a light and dark wood finish on the wooden angel tree topper. Or change the textures on the tree skirt. The menu also contains Access Control, so you can decide who can play with your tree.

Please note that all elements of the tree (except the candles) are mesh, so if you increase the size, the land impact will increase accordingly.

-Hanaya- Simple Advent Wreath (Texture Change)

The sculpted wreath is 9 prims and consists of a simple pine wreath with ivy and 4 candles, which you can click on/off individually. Why individually? Well in Germany, and likely in other countries, it is the custom to have an advent wreath with 4 candles, where each candle symbolizes one of the 4 Sundays before Christmas. On each of those Sundays, you light a new candle on that day.

Our Advent Wreath is texture change, so that you can best match the colour of the candles and the ivy to your liking. Simply click anywhere (except the top of the candles), and a  menu will pop up that allows you to change the textures.

The newly released Festive Chandelier from -Hanaya- does both of those things.
Sit on the mistletoe for a sweet kiss animation, touch the wreath to change the ornaments, and the metal colour.

And of course, you can turn the lights on and off – it is a  light fixture after all.

The chandelier is provided in two versions, the full prim one includes 3 sizes of ornaments and mistletoe – all yummily sculpted. The different sizes of ornaments can be changed individually, and so can the metal finish of the chandelier. All changes are done via an easy-to-use menu. And since this version has mistletoe, it includes a couple kiss.

The couple kiss contains a pair of animations, and a matching pair of static poses for ease of taking a photo. Both are fully adjustable and are accessible via the built-in animation menu – no icky poseballs required!

The low prim version of the chandelier has a texture change for the metal (silver and gold) and is graced with a sculpted pine wreath.

Twelve long stemmed roses are a traditional and heartfelt way to say “I love you” or “Thank you” – at Christmas and all year long. Our romantic bouquet is arranged in an exquisite ceramic vase which is texture change to match any home decor.

Because Unhinged, a festival to raise funds for … you know, Eku’s head …  is not about being sad. It is about friendship, helping, being positive, and taking control by doing something. And feeling really great as a result.

Some of you guys, who follow my Flickr stream, may know that my partner Yuukie and I recently moved our SL home to the Sailor’s Cove Sims, an area adjacent to the Blake Sea. One of my first custom orders was for Yuukie – to build mesh outdoor shelving for her bonsai collection, which will be housed outside on our terrace year-around. Here is a pic …

While working on the shelving, I thought a nice feature for deciduous bonsai would be the ability to change seasons via a menu.

That is how our newest product, the -Hanaya- Windswept Bonsai (Season Change) came about. Without hesistation, I chose the Shakan style of bonsai, as that is one of my favourite forms. More info on bonsai forms can be found here.

The construction of the root structure, trunk and branches was a slow picky process – one of the things I love about creating in Second Life. Once the tree had its form, the work to create foliage, and to plant the bonsai in a pot appropriate to its shape and size was quick work.  More fun followed in devising combinations for the 5 seasonal looks.

Even if you do not spend a single linden on all the cool stuff available for sale, you must see the complex, all-mesh build commissioned by organizer extraordinaire RubyStarlight Writer (Exposeur + Hottie Cooterati). The amazing custom build was created by Isla Gealach-Nayar (Cheeky Pea) and Kaz Nayar (Pilot).

A collaborative effort between Moriko Inshan and Lance Corrimal, the 5 adorable robots made their first global appearance at the Cinema 2012 event in Second Life yesterday.

Utilizing the Havok physics engine, the robots are programmed for pathfinding, which allows for real-time collision avoidance in three dimensions.

“Designing the robots and then creating the meshes was a really fun project”, says Moriko Inshan, lead conceptualizer, designer and creator. Moriko is the creative force behind -Hanaya-, a 2 year old virtual business in Second Life.

Lance Corrimal, developer of the Dolphin Viewer, is the scripter who makes the robots tick. Lance says: “Designing the behaviour of these guys was fun. I just wish pathfinding wasn’t so limited – right now all you can do are things that move on the land or on firm surfaces. Imagine what you could do with this if it could drive flying or swimming things.”

debut of “ROBOPET, the path to friendship” on October 13, 2012. Follow our robot hero-toys,  as they land on Earth and seek to make friends in this breathtaking adventure that is bound to entertain audiences of all ages.

-Hanaya- Spooky Pathfinding Ghosts

The ghosts are packaged in a one-prim rezzer, disguised as a patch of fallen leaves. When clicked to activate, the slightly glowy ghosts will be rezzed in random locations within a 5 meter radius, and then freely navigate in a 314 meter² area following your terrain or ‘walkable’ prim surface. The ghosts are temp (usually last about a minute), have psychedelic colour-cycle eyes, and a new one is rezzed out every 45 seconds.

Please note:
Pathfinding is on by default on all mainland sims. In private estates, it can be switched on/off in the Estate Tools, for which EM is needed.

So stop by our in-world store to see the -Hanaya- Spooky Pathfinding Ghosts in action during the month of October. Watch out though! Some of them may follow you into the store.

The Muskoka Horse Barn was created for my friend Fiona to blend into her landscape on Long Island Sound. Built from two-tone bleached birch and topped with a dark clay roof, the muted tones are a good neutral colour choice for many landscapes.

The -Hanaya- My Romance furniture collection is now available for sale at our in-world store as well as on the Second Life Marketplace. Also on display and available for sale is our Three Tier Cake with animations, as well as vintage botanical prints and keepsake boxes.

 -Hanaya- Nested Tables with Autumn Artichoke

September is here, and so is the monthly group gift for -Hanaya- Yummy Collectibles in-world group.

A one prim, one Land Impact set of 3 nested tables in modify/copy permission so that you can resize and retexture as you like. The tables are topped with a simple wood-turned bowl, which contains my version of autumn artichokes that have been blooming in my real life garden.

The gift has been sent out on the group, but will remain available at our in-world store during the month of September.

We are excited to announce that -Hanaya- will be participating in 2 cool events in October.

First, is Cinema! An awesome event being organized by the talented RubyStarlight Writer, who brought us Festival of Sin last winter. I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet and share too many details, so for now I will just say think sci-fi.

-Hanaya- A Day with Hammy Hamster

Thanks to custom scripting work by my darling brother-in-law, Lance Corrimal, we are proud to introduce A Day with Hammy Hamster – an addition to your Second Life home or store that is fun to play with.

Our smart little hamster, Hammy, will go through his day doing hamstery things – either with you, or all on his own.

When he is alone, Hammy will exercise on his wheel (which really turns), then hop off and eat, drink and go into his house for a rest.

But if you join him, it will be twice the fun, because you get to stuff your face. Or quench your thirst – but with coffee, not water like Hammy.

I like the exercise part the best - grit your teeth and do sit ups! When you get tired, have a little nap with Hammy. But be careful, Hammy sometimes gets out of his cage!

Even though the weather in Europe has been rather gloomy and cool, my tomato plants are doing well. I check on them every morning, coffee in hand, inspecting the size of the little green blobs and drooling at the thought of toasted tomato sandwiches, salads with grilled tomatoes, and yes, fried green tomatoes with our Sunday morning bacon and eggs. Yumm!

My better half offered up the name for our cute Bagged Tomato plant – and on hearing it, I instantly agreed. A juicy, shiny, perfectly ripe tomato hangs from a non-tomato vine, begging to be harvested.

Planted in a vertical bag planter, it will hardly take up any room and is a cute edible decor item that can be attached to a garden or house wall, or a fence. Or how about growing it inside, right in your kitchen?

Eight prims, including shadows and copy, modify permissions as always with our products.

I am a nature girl from way back, so camping and hanging around outside is my thing.

-Hanaya- My Little Horsie

Our  little wannabe horse consists of a mesh/sculptie body and head, with an English saddle. The beautifully detailed saddle comes equipped with 3 riding poses – just right for taking some cute pics. And the little horsie head is primaliciously kissable.

Lacking prims? No problem – you can use the wearable version of the saddle and a stripped down version of the horse, which is also included – only 1 prim.

My Little Horsie was sent out to -Hanaya- Yummy Collectibles in-world group members today. If you missed yours, it is also available in the Customer Information area of our in-world store, where it will remain up for grabs for the month of July. Please note that the group join fee is 250 L.

Since our flat did not have a usable coffee maker, each morning we walked into the more populated areas in search of our morning espresso. And each morning, I admired balconies with wonderful window boxes, crammed full of flowering annuals, perennials and herbs.

Most of the inhabitants of Venice do not have gardens, so window boxes are a perfect way to indulge in one’s love of gardening. Here is one of the million pics I snapped while wandering in the city – this one taken with the intent to re-create a part of Venice for Second Life.

I recreated the window box itself in mesh, and planted it with a cherry tomato plant, kale, fern, black-eyed susan, rudebeckia and foxgloves. Please note that a current viewer, capable of displaying mesh is required. Both the window box and plants are mod, so if you have narrower windows, you can remove a plant or two and size the window box to fit as needed.

The -Hanaya- Venezia Window Box is on display in the front window of our in-world store, and available for sale there, as well as on the Second Life Marketplace.

In Second Life, our rose breeding program recently produced 3 new tea rose cultivars, Tangerine Dream, Pink Love and Forever Pink.

-Hanaya- Dozen Long Stemmed Roses (Tangerine)

Tangerine Dream’s orange-red blooms wow you with their reverse yellow shading, and are complemented by peach gypsophyla. Strong stems with waxy deep green foliage add height to the bouquet.

-Hanaya- Dozen Long Stemmed Roses (Pink)

The vibrant tones of the Pink Love tea rose are offset by the delicate light pink of Forever Pink. Meticulously sculpted and textured blossoms stand proud above a deep pink-hued gypsophyla.

Both bouquets are displayed in crystal vases with gently rippling animated water surface. And they do not need watering!

Summery fabrics and weathered dark wood are part of the -Hanaya- Country Life furniture series. The overstuffed armchair is perfect for indoors or on your terrace, patio or balcony. Includes 2 menu-driven unisex animations.
