Changes Coming to Livingtree!

Hi Everyone!

Everything changes; but Livingtree hasn't changed in while. Next Tuesday, April 9th, that is going to change!

The land is going to shift some, buildings will change, some places will vanish, and others will suddenly appear. When it's done, we think that Livingtree will be more beautiful and welcoming than ever. (It'll certainly be more up-to-date.)

We're not telling you exactly what we're going to do, because that would ruin the surprise.*

But if you have a place on the island that you're particularly fond of, or you want to see it in its current state one last time, you have a week to do it in.

We're all excited, and can't wait! It's going to be great. :D

Are You Watching?

The first thing that came to mind when I read that this week’s Single Frame Story challenge was “Watch” was steampunk. Steampunk always makes me think of grandfather clocks, pocket watches, and time pieces of all sorts. I briefly toyed with the idea of putting together a clockwork doll, because I’ve always wanted to do one, but then my mind drifted toward the idea of interpreting the word watch less in the sense of a time piece and more in the sense of a verb. To watch, watching, an audience and the clockwork doll concept turned into a marionette. What’s the point of being a puppet master if no one watched your doll dance?

Sometimes when an idea comes together it really feels almost audible. If I were a cartoon a lightbulb would appear over my head with some ping type sound. Although I could have tried to put together a marionette look for my avatar, I knew the perfect scene was already created and waiting for me to photograph it at Tims Dream. I chose not to add a phrase to my story this week and just let the image stand on it’s own.

Tims Dream has been in Second Life for a while now and I’ve visited a few times planning to write about it, but I could never seem to capture the eeriness of this build. As you walk through the mountain tunnels, following the gatekeepers with the arrows you are taken through the stages of a child’s nightmare.

Freak Like Me – BOYB Challenge

Constellations Blog has a challenge called Bust Out Of Your Bubble. I asked Millie Gloom from Demented Dollie if she'd like to collaborate for the challenge.

We got together and had a great time putting together a rock show scene, and afterwards we kicked back for a little Q&A to get to know a little bit about each other, since the objective of the challenge was to meet new people and learn about how they blog.

I asked the questions first. For Milli'e questions to me, visit Demented Dollie.

1) What inspired you to start blogging?

My love of goth/ alternative fashion and seeing that it was often not well represented on the fashion feeds!
(you're representing well!)

2) What do you do to prepare for a new blog post?

I take hours to prepare for any blog post. But it usually starts with an idea/ concept, then I move onto select my outfit and finally choose a location/ build the scene.
(I switch the last two, I'm usually more interested in the scene than I am my clothing.)

3) What tips would you give to a new blogger?

Preparation is key! Make sure you are well prepared beforehand. Also, enjoy yourself! If you enjoy the blogging process it shows in your photos!
(If you're not having fun, it's really not worth doing!)

4) What are five brands in SL that you love?

Only 5? There really are soooooo many that I love! I am a total shopaholic!! I could probably pick 5 brands per item- hair/ skins/ eyes/ clothes/ shoes/ jewelry/ tattoos/ make-ups!

The Border

I don't consider myself a writer, but I love doing the weekly 100 Word Story challenge. This week's prompt is "Border".

The Border

Billy had tickets to see Velvet Crush, the rock band he’d waited to see for years. The car was loaded up for the drive to the club, a couple hours away near the border. The smartphone was running GPS for the trip, which Billy was following closely.

His excitement grew when the GPS spoke in a robotic voice, “Concert Club one mile away”, but his heart dropped when it continued, “200 yards beyond the border”. Billy drove up to the crossing and parked on the side of the road, fearful.

He’d heard too many stories about nausea and crashes at borders, and was afraid to cross.

Vanilla Dreams

As often seems to happen when I’m taking pictures of a location or outfit, the Single Frame Story prompt emerges from the maze of my mind. Who knows if this week’s prompt Vanilla played a part in the look or location I chose for my last post, or if taking those pictures reminded me of this week’s challenge, but the two merged so perfectly the reason seemed irrelevant. I would do both.

My first thought when I read the word Vanilla last week was to do a fetish shot. I’m sure that’s hardly a surprise to those that know me best. Then I started to think about the flavour of vanilla; the places we expect it, and particularly the ones we don’t.

Tears for example; they are salty, but what if they were a myriad of ice cream flavours? Would we cry more? Would country fair stalls sell shot glass sized tear drinks for a dollar? Would trendy cafes have bottles on the wall and which flavour add in would I chose for my coffee? Joy? Disappointment? Grief? Would I be tempted to lick the tears off your cheek to see if your flavour was different than mine?

That train of thought was coming dangerously close to the tunnels in my brain where I don’t normally let you guys ride, so I pulled the switch and went down a different track.

Next time I dream, I’m going to take a moment to taste the rain.

A ColdLogic Spring at Nostos Deer

One of the more interesting things about being part of a global community like Second Life is listening to the talk of time zones and seasons. Who hasn’t had that experience of saying good night just as another is saying good morning? It’s much the same with seasons. For some it’s currently spring, and though technically my calendar would concur, there is more snow outside my window today than most get over the entire winter.

It’s not just the weather that varies for those who are experiencing spring; it’s the vision or feel of the season that is unique to each of us. For some spring is tulips and bunnies and all things green. For me, spring is a muted inconsistent thing. One brave tree might have the greenish hint of new life as it begins to leaf out while the one next to it is by all appearances dead, its skeletal branches a reminder that winter has not yet left the building.

As you walk in a clearing the sun is warm on your face, tempting you to remove your jacket, tricking you into wearing summer shoes but when you turn a corner there are the patches of snow lingering in the shade daring you to walk through them into seasons past.

Nostos Deer captures that look of spring perfectly to me. The patches of snow merging with grass not yet quite fully green; the bravest of buds appearing on trees next to the remains of those who have not yet announced their intentions. Vanilla

My favourite photo to take every week has become my Single Frame Story, which I think about all week and then work on Friday afternoon. Some weeks I know by Monday exactly what I want to do, or I suddenly change my plan halfway through framing it, like today. Either way, I usually spend a couple hours getting props and location set up, which keeps me out of trouble.

Happy Mood Hunting

It’s been an unusually difficult and stressful few weeks recently for me, both online and off. It’s rare and unfortunate when that’s the case in both venues because I can’t use one to escape the other. Frying pan or fire? Not the most tempting of choices.

I opted for door number three, a distraction from my regular virtual life and so I started attending the Virtual Artist Alliance’s Photohunts again. I’ve only been to two so far, but I was reminded how much I enjoyed them.

Last week’s theme was Soft and we were given a landmark for Happy Mood. It’s been a while since I’d been there, but what a pleasant rediscovery it was. I was so preoccupied with exploring every hidden corner and sitting on every swing and stump I could find that I forgot to take any pictures until the hour was half over. The picture above and below are some of the many shots I ended up saving to my desktop; they didn’t represent the theme very well so I didn’t enter them, but I’m really pleased with the surreal and abstract nature Happy Mood inspired in me.

In the end it was this bunny that said soft to me. Perhaps a bit cliché but I couldn’t help myself. Something about the way he is peeking around the corner of books just made me smile.

The Virtual Artist Alliance hosts two Photohunts each week. The Wednesday night event is at 6pm SLT which is the one I have been trying to attend when I’m able, but there is another on Monday mornings at 11:30 am. If you haven’t been to one before, they are very easy t (Read more...)

St Patrick’s Day

St Patrick's Day Pub

The Guinness was ready, and shamrocks were placed everywhere. Billy had his tacky, bright green leprechaun suit dry-cleaned and ready for the weekend.
Business was really tough lately. The regulars were dying of liver failure or “getting healthy” and drinking less, and Billy’s country bar was really struggling. But a couple years ago, he had a brilliant idea. He changed to whole bar into an Irish pub for one week of the year, when all the cowboys claimed to be from the Emerald Isle. Billy was making enough in that week to stay afloat the rest of the year.
This year, he even hired a ginger.

Who Are You?

I heard about Strawberry Singh's Seven SL Facts meme yesterday, and thought I'd give it a try. Here are 7 Facts about my SLife.

1) I'm back on my first avatar, but I've had two others as my main one over the past 6 years.

2) I've always wanted to do photos, but had no skills 5 years ago, so I opened a studio with 2 friends and did all the management while they did photography.

3) I once asked a tattoo maker how much he'd charge me to take my favourite tattoo off the market so that nobody would have it but me!

4) My inventory didn't get out of control until I found mesh and started demoing everything. Also, I delete landmarks and notecards almost immediately. Search usually gets me where I'm going.

5) I suck at holding down jobs in SL. Both times I tried working at clubs, it lasted less than a month.

6) When someone asks me to look at their shirt or some other new clothing, their AO will drive me crazy until I have to ask them to get on a pose stand

7) I've always owned or rented. Maybe I'm just one of those people that wants a place to call home.

Come Undone

The other day, I heard a cover version of a song that I really love, Duran Duran's "Come Undone".
As I listened to the cover version and remembered the old song and memories of it fondly, it occurred to me that things change but it doesn't change your past and the fantastic memories.

With all this thinking, I wanted to take a photo! I had a perfect spot and piece of furniture, so I set up the scene. L&K Prefab's entry for the monthly Home & Garden event "The Challenge" had a perfect pose for the contemplating I was doing. (This month's theme of The Challenge is "Tudor".) The bed and dead tree in the photo is L&K Prefab's "Morning Wood", and yes, I do smile a little when I say the name.

The Town Idiot

It's been a couple weeks since I've submitted a 100 word story, but here goes, I hope I can get back into the swing of things. This week's prompt from 100 Word Stories is "Idiot"

The Town Idiot
Everyone calls him the town idiot. The man dresses well, never bothers anyone, and nobody really knows whether his intelligence warrants the nickname.
When the carnival is in town, he stands in the shadow of the ferris wheel, waiting for anyone to take a little ride with. Day after day he patiently walks near the amusement ride, as the other folks in the town keep their distance. Even when he approaches someone politely, they run away.
It never occurred to him that the townsfolk were judging him based on his appearance.

In Memory of Mabb Dilweg

A couple of days ago I learned that the typist behind the SL avatar known as Mabb Dilweg had passed away suddenly. This news hit me far harder than I ever imagined it could.

I’ve known people from SL who passed away before, but for some reason this one really hit home. It most certainly can be credited to Mabb’s bigger than life personality, her compassion, her charm, her warmth, the way she could bring joy to any situation, her infectious laughter but in truth I think it was the story of her and her partner Shane Fairlock that really made this an additional tragedy for me.

Only a couple of weeks ago Mabb shared this with us:

The other night, Shane and I were being all gooey and lovey-dovey because our anniversary was coming up, and well, we were being geeky-lovey-dovey and saying thank you to Tesla, and Turing, and Bill Gates and of course, Al Gore who invented the internet because well, otherwise we’d never have met!

Then it struck me. Seriously. The ONLY person to thank is Philip. If Philip hadn’t dreamed up SL, convinced people to fund it and used connections and whatever to get it hyped up all over the press, we’d never have known about SL… and well, the amazing, serendipitous set of circumstances that led to my friend throwing a 3-day old n00b at me while I was DJing three years ago today, would never have happened.

So. Thank you Philip. You made it possible for me to meet the most wonderful man I have ever known.

The Edge of Hazardous in ColdLogic

The notecard and blog post for the latest ColdLogic release was titled “Bad Girls in Great Cardigans”. I had to smile, that sounded like a perfect inspiration for a blog post. I love the combination of the pink cardigan with the black and grey dress but even better news is that there is a cardigan only version included so you can wear it with other separates. That’s like getting two outfits in one!

We all know how dangerous bad girls can be, so a trip to the Hazardous sim that I read about on Ziki’s blog seemed in order. As you can see from her pictures it’s a lovely build with wild grasses and abandoned buildings but I was inspired to do this whole set with night time lighting to keep with my bad girl concept.

As I jumped (ok, I fell) off the edge of the build I found several little scenes set up in the water. You know where I’m going with this right? Edge was the prompt for this week’s Single Frame Story. I keep telling you guys, these posts create themselves. I’m just the typist.

Lana del Rey’s Out of Luck, one of my favorite bad girl songs, played no small part in this set as I had it on repeat while doing the pictures.

Unified Heart: A Leonard Cohen Art Exhibition in Second Life

I have a confession to make, well maybe two depending how you see things. The first is that I haven’t spent a lot of time visiting Art Galleries in Second Life. I’m not sure why, I love looking at images created in Second Life. I spend hours browsing Flickr, Blogs and Koinup and have several favorite artists but I guess I didn’t really feel that viewing this type of 2d art in Second Life with my avatar would add to that experience.

My next confession is that I’m a big Leonard Cohen fan, always have been, both as a singer and a poet. It was in fact my love of all things Cohen that actually prompted me to visit the Unified Heart Art Exhibit in Second Life more than my enjoyment of galleries.

Unified Heart 2013 is the second iteration of this project that challenges Second Life artists to create and image inspired by Cohen’s lyrics.

All I'm dressed for is a fun night out with the girls. Why does a quality pair of high heels imply anything more?
The sound of my heels clicking on the sidewalk does little to cover the sound of his voice. He mutters under his breath as I walk past him, raising his voice when I ignore him. I tense up when he starts following me down the dark, quiet street.

Courting My Muse at Ukulhas Island

Twice this week I logged in, no small feat in itself lately, and I had not only an inspiration, but a plan. I wanted to finish the photoshoot and story that I gave of hint of in my Create a Character Challenge. Location, check. Outfit, check. Poses, check. Inspiration, check. Then it happened. Distraction.

Those are the moments I wish I had more experience being in touch with my creative side, a stronger bond with my muse, but alas when I pause to deal with the distraction I look back and she’s gone. A fickle thing she is, possessive too, she refuses to share me anyone or anything. If I even momentarily give my attention to something else she leaves me, sometimes for days. The harder I chase or the tighter I hold, the more fleeting she becomes.

Both times I logged off because there isn’t much point lingering, once she leaves she won’t be back and her sudden departures tend to make me sullen and snarky. It feels a lot like being stood up. Sure you could do something else, but who wants to? I can’t, I won’t, blame anyone else but myself. I’m sure that most people can multitask, create and socialize at the same time, but I’m not one of them.

Second Life viewers gives us tools like marking ourselves as busy or autoresponse, but those don’t work well for me. Much like a ringing phone, I have to answer it. Even if I decide not to answer, to let it go to voice mail, two minutes later I’m checking messages anyway. Same thing for IMs, notices and group (Read more...)

Today's post is a double participation thing - the photo is for Single Frame Stories, and the following story is for 100 Word Stories. This is my first attempt at 100 Word Stories, having the prompt word "Switch" synchronized between both challenges made it easy to convince me to try.

SWITCH
The bet was simple. If my team won, I decided on the date and what she’d wear, and if she won, she’d decide. Her team won, and I regret leaving the terms of the bet so open.
She said that we’d reverse roles tonight. She would hold the doors open, she’d pay for dinner, and she would wear the pants.
I went along with all of that, even wearing heels.
But I’m having trouble with her last request, how do I give up the one thing I’ve never shared?

I’ll cry when I hand her the keys to my Mustang.

Create a Character Challenge Issued

When I was an avid roleplayer, and I mean a daily full immersive player, genre specific content was more important to me than I can express. My character was so solidified in my brain that I could see a hairstyle and know if it was “her” or not. I went years without owning a pair of shoes because my character didn’t wear them in Gor.

Conversely, content was often the inspiration to the characters I created. Another of my more Urban characters had a pair of silly crayon boots that became her signature item. As an aspiring young reporter, she’d use the crayons she stored in her boots to draw pictures and make notes of the things her fragile mental health couldn’t handle. Entire scenes and stories began with those boots, as have lasting friendships.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner I wanted to celebrate the occasion but in a different way, my way, by acknowledging my First and True Love, roleplay.

So I’m issuing a Blogger Challenge and I’m hoping at least a few pick it up because this isn’t just about me, it’s about acknowledging the bond between content and roleplay. Creators need customers for their content, consumers need somewhere to wear or use the items, sims need a player base, but those players need content in order for the genre and stories to stay fresh and so they need creators to make it.

We were sitting around innocently last night when Kirsty from Rack Poses posted a photo of a new item in her store. I knew as soon as I saw it where it would look great - right behind where we were sitting.

I heard about a weekly photo event called Single Frame Stories a few weeks ago, and after looking over the previous entries, I decided to stretch a little and try it out.
The concept isn't very far from what I already do. Instead of using one photo to capture a song, Single Frame Stories use one photo to summarize a story (which we create in our heads from a prompt word.
So I did the photo without using a song to help me imagine it, which left me unsure of how to blog the photo!
Finally, I found a song I wanted to use. I'm not going to explain anything, that's the beauty of it. You can make up your own story!

Two Black Cadillacs

What would he be thinking when he realized what had happened?

That was one of the things I thought when I heard the lyrics to this song by Carrie Underwood. And that's where the inspiration for this photo came from... the final view that the (dead) cheating man would have in this world.

This was a big project for me, as it was the first set that I put together from scratch, and the most people at once in a photo also. A special thank you to Skylar & Autumn for taking the time to get all dressed up and pose for me, and another thank you to Maci for helping with the final edit on the photo!

My 100th Post: Stories of Flight Found

When I opened up WordPress today to start writing, I realized this was my 100^th post. I can’t even believe that, it sure doesn’t feel like a hundred. I suppose I should do something special to mark the occasion but this snuck up on me and I have nothing planned. The reason I bring it up though, is to thank all of you who have supported me through this process. For all of you who have been here since the beginning, you too have reached the 100^th post milestone. Sometimes I think you deserve more credit for reading them than I do for having written them. For my newer friends, who knows, maybe we’ll reach post 200 together but in the mean time it’s wonderful having you along for the ride.

Today I’m combining two entries I did for the Single Frame Stories challenges. http://singleframestories.wordpress.com/ Do you remember me talking about them before? Each week, we are given a word or a phrase and have to come up with an image and tell a story. I love these challenges; they inspire me to stretch myself while not limiting me in any way. Just Got Paid

After I got my first job as a newspaper delivery boy, I'd always go to the record store on payday to spend my money.
I'd come home with my new vinyl record, put on my headphones, put the record on the turntable and let it play. Listening to the record all the way through, reading the liner notes, and taping the record onto cassette were the first things I did after a record store visit.
Over the CD years, I got out of that habit, to the point that i didn't even know song titles anymore, it was just "track 4" on the CD. With vinyl making a bit of a comeback, I've rediscovered a bit of the joy of just listening to a record.

Chalk Outline

The song "Chalk Outline" has been on my mind for months. I wanted to do a photo representing it, but I wasn't sure how to get the outline with my lack of editing skills.
Nevertheless, I found a location and some clothes that fit the image in my head, and I gave it a shot. However, after a couple months of fiddling with the outline, I gave up and begged my friend Sunnie to fix it for me. Five minutes later, she sent it back with exactly what I wanted. Obviously, she has talent!

DollCoco’s Dorothy and the Magic of Oz

Remember the feeling of opening a new notebook, journal or daytimer at the start of a new year? All the clean crisp pages, those little promises you make to yourself about having neater handwriting and most importantly using it more often? Blogs are a lot like that, to me anyway, and I wanted to make all kinds of these promises to myself about the year to come but so far I haven’t done a single one! Oh well, it made me smile to think of those traditions and know I’ve transferred them to my virtual life, so I guess it was worth it. Maybe it’s the process of setting goals or resolutions that is more important than actually accomplishing them? I think I’ll just keep telling myself that.

The other night I saw an offline in my email that Coco/DollCoco had a new gift in store. A mesh full avatar of Dorothy and a set of display decorations of the other characters from Wizard of Oz. You can see the whole set on the blog here.

I absolutely love the DollCoco mesh avatars, do you remember when I blogged them before? They remind me of the work of my favorite artist, Angelina Wrona; doll like, awkwardly beautiful and just that wee bit creepy. I mean that in the nicest possible way, trust me, this notice not only got my butt logged into SL, but out exploring, taking pictures, and even blogging. How’s that for inspiration.

I've had a rough month with work and preparing for Christmas, and I'll admit that blogging has fallen way down my list of things I needed to get done.
The song I'd originally intended for this photo has been pushed aside, when I heard Zac Brown's "No Hurry" on the radio last week, my photo popped back into my head and I knew it was time to get blogging again. That was a week ago, so "no hurry" still applies!
By the way, in the winter, you don't need a beer fridge in Canada.

Tis The Season… For Good Intentions

I meant to get a post in before the holidays but it’s not looking like that is going to happen. It was partially time, I think I’ve been online only once this week and that was to celebrate the Solstice with the Happy Clams, but mostly the problem was that I was drawing a blank trying to find the perfect Seasons Greetings type of post. I’m not the biggest fan of wintery things, probably because I live with too much winter, and though I like Christmas I don’t tend to go all out in my decorations or costumes either. The holidays for me are about loved ones, those who are there to support and laugh with us every day, and in many ways those who are not.

I tossed around the idea of writing a special message for each person I miss, and each person I’m grateful to have in my life, but the risk of leaving someone out worried me. Then I decided at the very least I’d dress up in Holiday attire and visit one of the many Christmas locations on the grid right now to take pictures, but here I am on the 24th and as I sip my morning coffee and look over my to-do list it’s clear that isn’t going to happen.

I couldn’t just leave the blog with nothing to acknowledge the holidays so I decided that it’s close enough to the New Year that I could get a head start on one of those “a year in review” type of posts. I had intended to do this in the fall (Read more...)

With Love from The Wastelands

It’s that time of year again, the busy time. If it’s not baking or school concerts, it’s shopping or visiting friends and family. My preferred down time after a long hectic day is to escape and unwind in Second Life but lately it feels just as busy online as off.

There are quite a few big hunts, sales and events going on right now, the two I’m most excited about are the Peace on Earth Hunt and the With Love Hunt. Thanks to the Hint List from Chic Management and the photo previews of the gifts on Seraphim I managed to finish the With Love hunt. The gifts aren’t free, but at 10L each they are a remarkably generous bargain.

I was unpacking my boxes and trying things on when this look naturally came together almost exclusively from With Love items. Perhaps it’s all the talk of the world ending, or maybe it was just this fabulous hat, but something inspired me to revisit Wastelands to do this photoshoot.

As with every set I do, poses are my number one concern. I can’t ever have enough poses. They are what makes the image, tells the story, conveys the feeling. I’m excited beyond belief that TWO major pose makers have advent calendars this month with daily gifts; both Adorkable and Exposeur. I haven’t been online every day so I’ve missed a few, but the ones I’ve collected have been very worthwhile and Exposeur has even included some male poses and couples poses.

Tight lipped as to what the installation is about, and setting up an entire SIM in under 24 hours, Rebeca explained, that ‘The Tower’ is symbolic of restrictive areas, of closed minds, of self limitations and the like, as in kids fables.

I added it to my list of places to possibly visit if I get the chance, as I do most of the LEA builds, but it was only when I saw the pictures on Honour McMillians blog that I became really intrigued. Honour’s photos showed stark concrete walls with figures of the female form which immediately appealed to my love of eerie sensuality, but even the always eloquent writer didn’t really explain what The Tower was, just her reaction to it. Perplexed by this mystery I had to investigate for myself.

As I used the flowers to teleport from room to room, standing there myself surrounded by concrete and in awe of the disturbingly beautiful figures I realized why neither the creator nor Honour could really describe this. I can’t either. If anything, I guess I could tell you this is the build that made me speechless. Well, nearly speechless anyway, I am afterall writing this.
I suspect The Tower is no one thing, that we all see and experience something different as we move through it. I could learn a lesson from Rebeca in this, a lesson that Whiskey recently talked about on the Single Frame (Read more...)

Visiting the Warbugs with Skulprit Vehicles from Unhinged

We recently got word that Unhinged raised enough for Eku to schedule and receive her surgery. I’m so moved by everyone who participated; from DJ’s to creators, all the SL residents who stopped by to shop or donate, to the countless hours put in by the organizers. Sometimes I’m so proud of my fellow SL residents, of the connections we make, of the way we support each other. Unhinged is just one of the many ways that continuously proves that Second Life is so much more than just a game or virtual world. I don’t know what it is, and the debate has been had countless times by people far better than me, but whatever we call it the news of what we’ve accomplished here this past few weeks brought tears to my eyes.

Our work isn’t over though, far from it. While Eku recovers in hospital and we wait to see how everything turns out, we can keep on fundraising. Although what we accomplished seems miraculous, it in no way paid for the entire surgery, it only got her to the point that she could have it and the balance is still owing. Unhinged is running until December 15^thand we’re in the final week here folks so I wanted to toss in one more incentive for you to come down.

Wicked Ride

Let’s just get this out of the way off the top. I’m not happy with these pictures. They’ve been sitting on my desktop for days as I purse my lips and glare at them. It’s not just the graphics problems, which I’ll get to in a bit, but this set didn’t turn out how I imagined it would. Sometimes I wish I was a magician and could pull a chain of handkerchiefs out of my ear, and on them would be the images I see in my head.

Last week DJ Mabb played some Melody Gardot during her set at Unhinged and I’ve been on a smoky blues jazzy kick ever since. I was deep in that headspace when I saw the new release from ColdLogic included this amazing mesh pencil skirt. Love, love pencil skirts but I’ve never been able to make them work for me until now. This one fit like a glove. A concept was slowly taking shape when I read that this Luna’s color challenge this week was Cotton Candy and I immediately remembered my favorite pink boots from Gos that I can never have enough opportunities to wear. With Melody streaming in my ear, feeling good in my skirt and boots I set about framing the perfect smoky sultry shot. Some thirty pictures later…

Not bad. It probably doesn’t do the skirt as much justice as I really should, and it would be a hard sell to say this shot screams cotton candy pink, but over all the vibe is really close to what I was going for. In Canada, the snow has made a few appearances already. The days are getting shorter and it's getting cold, and the snow is coming.
The best way to get through the winter is to try to enjoy it, so when Amy of Pixel Vanity invited me to help build a snowman, I said yes! What better way for a couple of new Canadian friends to bond than some outdoor fun in the snow.

Hey Pretty Girl

This past week I've been on a creative streak in SL, taking dozens of new photos, but I keep forgetting to blog them. Yesterday I learned how to modify windlights, so I'd really like to keep testing new things with lighting. And right now, I have a weeks worth of photos sitting on my drive waiting to get uploaded to Blogger.

Maci and I did two sets in the middle of the week, so let's get caught up on the 2nd one!

I had the song "Hey Pretty Girl" by Kip Moore in my head for obvious reasons, and the pose Falling In Love by !bang fit perfectly (both the pose and the name of the pose). Maci and I found a great spot on The Grounds to pose, and we both took photos for blogging. She had me a little flustered because she was looking so good, and she was wearing a Canada sweatshirt! Luckily I managed to compose myself and get some photos done. You can see Maci's version at her blog Lil Miss Fashion Cupcake.
